  2. * GTP1/OBG family signature *

  5. A widespread  family  of  GTP-binding proteins has been recently characterized
  6. [1,2]. This family currently includes:
  7.  
  8.  - Mouse protein DRG.
  9.  - Drosophila protein 128up.
  10.  - Fission yeast protein GTP1.
  11.  - A Halobacterium cutirubrum hypothetical protein in a ribosomal protein gene
  12.    cluster.
  13.  - Bacillus subtilis  protein obg. Obg  has been experimentally shown to  bind
  14.    GTP.
  15.  - Caenorhabditis elegans hypothetical protein C02F5.3.
  16.  
  17. The function of the proteins that belong to this family is not yet known. They
  18. are polypeptides of about  40 to 48 Kd which contain  the  five small sequence
  19. elements characteristic of GTP-binding proteins [3]. As a signature pattern we
  20. selected the region that correspond to the ATP/GTP B motif (also called G-3 in
  21. GTP-binding proteins).
